D40 engine gone bang

ok , its done 40000, the dealer has the engine out, it has holed a piston, if an injector fails it is like a laser, i know high pressure common rail can be bad!

well they are getting the block checked as i believe it might be damaged, also it picked up and might have damaged the head, that it to be crack tested too

Your thought please gentlemen!

dont think id want it back without crate engine fitted to many bits floating round in there for just rebuild either that or you want some kindve extra warranrty on there workmanship!

Hi jace,

yes well i am trying to keep an open mind on this, but everyone i have told said sell it, it will never be the same……nothing against the dealer but they have a budget to keep to, my toyota mate said the same(works for a large dealer), they will want to do it as cheap as poss…..

put it the other way round you lost control and ploughed into there plate glass window theyd screw u for every penny possible new glass, cleaning up,boarding up,scratches to showroom stock, down time for staff under stress etc etc bollox to em theyll claim it back from nissan under waranty system stick at it mate

I agree with jace, completely new engine, or go down the rejection route.

I had to reject my first D40, which was quite straight forward as i’d not even had it a week before it had a serious issue.

So the longer you have the vehicle, the more difficult a rejection becomes, although i do know of a case where a guy rejected his truck after almost a year of owning it.

The dealer will tell you they are honouring the warranty by replacing the damaged parts of your engine, but it’s your call really.

My first D40, was repaired, and resold very quickly, in fact i see it every few days, and maybe it will now be ok for the rest of it’s life?, but once you have a serious engine failure, it can effect lots of components.

I think you at least should ask for a new engine, good luck with it anyway mate, i know how you feel, horrible situation.

Well with my dealings so far with nissan customer service i doubt very much they will listen to anything i have to say,imo this is a massive failure and a vehicle of this age should not be having major engine work.

I have rejected a vehicle before but it was very new and they could not repair it so they had no other choice.

As for the navara it is just over 2 years old , I will need to see what they say they are going to do .

no need to reject complete truck just make it clear to them you want new engine or some kindve extra warranty on there engine work it might frighten them enough to go new engine

A rebuilt engine rebuilt properly will last as long as a brand new motor.

People saying it will never be the same again. Tell them to show you there mechanics trade certificate.

I hate nothing more then people who have no clue whatso ever about cars and says things like “that car has been in a crash, it will never drive the same”. If it has been repaired properly it will.

If repaired cars never drove the same, would they be aloud back on the road.

Answer: No they wouldn’t. If repaired properly they are usually stonger, ie: more weld on skirts ect.

if its melted hole through piston crown think off all bits floating round in oil aswell as heat generated i wouldnt want to be driving around wondering if its ginna be ok.

If it is rebuilt.

The engine is stripped down.

All parts are measured.

Jace wasn’t your ZD30DDT rebuilt after the pistons melted or cracked. I am assuming no 3 or 4.

Navara, 07 plate. New March 07
    Now has 39,000 miles.
Serviced at 36,800. Reported knocking noise but nothing found, however they say it needs to come in for major oil leak, (Monday) ive checked vehicle, drive, office parking space, no sign of any leaks, checked since but nothing.
However has a tendancy to start knocking - it lasts for 5-10 miles then stops. Done it 6-8 times since new.
Dont believe there is an oil leak, could it be another 3rd piston trying to get out.
Sounds like cold start has been sprayed into air intake like on old transits or its trying to compress liquids.

    Any ideas or similar diagnosis.

funny, just had the same problem myself on a 2004 model, done 62,000km. Dealer wants to charge £11,000 for a replacement engine. SO I was looking around for a refurb. The people I spoke too are saying all these engines have a design fault that NIssan has not bother to do anything about. The engines will do between 55,000 and 75,000 before they blow a con rod. Advice was fit a refurb and then sell it. Same engine is in the new versions that aremade in Spain. Good business for Nissan if everyone needs to go back and get a new engine!

hi i work for a small but busy nissan navara engine specialist in the north of england.
just to point out since engines began con rod bearings and mains cap bearings have contained copper, tin, and white metal as an engineer specialising in nissan navara engine remanufacture, original nissan bearings do not contain copper. could this be nissan saving money ?
